Williamsburg, VA Roadtrip - Day 1

AND WE’RE OFF!!! Let the LONG roadtrip begin!

It was 6:50am on Saturday, April 28, 2012 and we finally left Des Moines heading east on I80 on our way to Williamsburg, VA. It wasn’t too far until we decided to stop at Little Amana to have breakfast. Ahhh, how I love the German food! After breakfast we drove non-stop until the car told us it was time to get gas. We stopped in LeRoy, IL at a shady Shell station. We had so much trouble getting gas from the pump that we almost left to find another gas station. After 15 minutes, our tank was full and it was on the road again.

We drove through Indianapolis and just before we crossed the Kentucky boarder we decided it would be a good idea to stretch a little and take a bathroom break.

And they’re off….AGAIN!  Back on the open road, we passed through Louisville and then through Lexington. By this time it was 6:00pm and we had it with driving for the day. We ended up staying at a Day’s Inn in Mt. Sterling; room 126 to be exact. After we unpacked the car, it was 7pm and time for supper. We searched the town for places to eat using Yelp® and Google Places® and found this little diner on Main Street. Mt Sterling had a lot of historic houses and even a brick road city square. We found the diner but unlike Iowa where establishments are smoke free, KY is not and the only seating available was smoking. I’m sorry, but when I order food I would prefer not to have a second course of secondhand smoke. We asked the host at the restaurant where they prefer, and she suggested El Camino.

DELICIOUS! The chips and salsa was superb, and I found a new hot sauce that rocks my world! Stuffed to the point of bursting, it was time to hit the sac.

Day one…complete.
