Raleigh, NC Roadtrip 2012 - Day 1

Day ONE!

We started our move out east at 7:00am; following the same route we took when I went to Williamsburg, VA just a few weeks ago. The drive was nice and looooooonnnggg, but Becca and I kept each other occupied.

Becca had the first drive shit of the trip. She drove from Des Moines to Le Roy, IL where we ended up getting gas and lunch at Arbys. Then it was my turn to take the wheel. When we arrived in Louisville, KY we met our host for the night at Against the Grain Brewery. It was a cool establishment, but our host (Sarah) was even COOLER!

We walked into the brewery, which is attached to Slugger Field, and finally met our first host Sarah. She was able to take a mini break and visit with us for a little bit welcoming us to Louisville, KY! I can’t forget to mention the beer sampler she gave us for a welcome gift!

LJ, Ali, Becca & I at Baxter's
Since Sarah had to work until close, we decided to hook up with Ali and LJ…two more Louisville couchsurfers. Both were great! They took us through downtown Louisville and showed us the city. Next it was time to eat, so they took us to a tex mex restaurant that sits along the Ohio River.  It was then time to get back into the car and continue our tour of Louisville. Ali and LJ showed us their around a few of the older neighborhoods in town.

We ended up going to Bardstown road which is a street that had specialty shops on both sides for several miles, so we parked and walked it. Ali & LJ took us to their favorite bar…Baxters and we ended up having a few drinks and just chillin. A few shots and Irish car bombs later it was time to head back and met up with Sarah, so we could end our evening.

Sarah and Jake lead us back to their place; an old Victorian mansion that was transformed into apartments. There we relaxed and talked for several hours before heading to bed at 1:30am. We talked about family, our farms, 4-H (because 4-H was HUGE in Sarah’s family), and life in general. It was a great way to end the first day of our trip, and Becca’s first couchsurfing experience!
