Raleigh, NC Roadtrip 2012 - Day 3

Day 3

There is something about waking up and heading a stream in the background and smelling fresh pine scented air. Anyway that is how we started our third day of the trip! Once we were fully awake and bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, we packed up our campsite and were on the go again!

While making our way to Cherokee, we decided it would be a great day to take a hike in the National Park…so we did. We found a trailhead and did a two hour hike. It was very relaxing and nice to stretch our “car-legs.”

After the rejuvenating hike, it was time to hit up Cherokee and grab some lunch before heading to Asheville. Becca had her first taste of Buffalo and I had this Indian fry bread with chili. Both were pretty good! Next it was off to Asheville!

Asheville was just like I remembered it two years ago…AMAZING! Not only were the shops in Asheville great, but so were the people…especially our couchsurfing host, Lydia! We met up with Lydia in Downtown Asheville, and from there we walked the streets and she showed us some pretty cool places! By the time we met up, it was time for supper and Lydia took us to this tasty gourmet taco place called “White Duck Tacos!” As Becca states, “The tacos were awesome and definitely satisfying.” Next Lydia took us to a local brewery called “The Wedge.” I fell in love with their Wit Bier…it definitely surpasses Blue Moon by a long shot! If they had it available in a growler I would have taken some back to Iowa!

While at the brewery, we had some great conversations! Lydia found out that Becca and I didn’t know much about the Grateful Dead and she was awestruck…LOL great times! After a few pitchers of the Wit Bier, it was time to head to Lydia’s home. Her house was really cool. She had a three tiered garden in her back yard and you could tell she loved art because her walls were covered with original pieces…some of which were her own.

After getting a tour of her pad, we decided to head to the local pub with her. Just like PBR is a favorite crappy beer in Iowa…Genesee is the favorite in Asheville.  For $1.50/can I couldn’t pass up trying it! Surprisingly it was pretty good crappy beer! Around 11:00pm, Becca and I decided to head back to Lydia’s house and get ready for bed. After getting a little lost finding our way back to Lydia’s place, we finally made it! What a great time in Asheville, NC! All thanks goes to Lydia for giving us a remarkable time!
