Every roadtrip I take I have to hit up local farmers
markets. (That urge started last year during the California roadtrip.) So this
morning we hit up the Western NC Farmers Market. This market was different from
the Valley Junction or downtown Des Moines farmers markets. It was bigger and
it almost had a “mall” feel, but they had a lot of jams, honey, and produce.
After hitting up the farmers market it was time to head to
Wilmington and see the Atlantic Ocean! After roughly 6 hours in the car, we
were able to relax and swim in the Atlantic Ocean! This was Becca’s first time
to the ocean and she loved it! She was so anxious, every time we went over a
bridge she looked frantically at the horizon to see if she could catch a
glimpse of the blue waters.
| Hello Iowa! From the beaches of NC! |
We spent about 2.5 hours swimming and laying out at Carolina
Beach. It was very relaxing and surprisingly the water was decently warm enough
to swim. After getting our feet wet, we decided to grab a bite to eat at the
Shuckin Shack…an oyster bar. It was there where Becca and I had our first taste
of steamed clam!
It was now time to meet up with our host Brit at Buffalo
Wild Wings. We took part in their trivia night and almost got first place! It
was a great time playing trivia with Brit and her friends! Too bad we didn’t
win the trivia game…there is always next time!
After trivia we followed Brit and Amy back to Brit’s house.
She gave us a tour of her house and we ended up sitting outside on her porch
and talked for about an hour. It is fascinating learning about the ambitions
and aspirations of others.
Right now, I’m lying on the futon and almost about ready to
fall asleep. But on the positive side of things…I’m now fully caught up with the
trip updates! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings! Until tomorrow!
