There I was…7:50am....lying in bed…thinking to myself, “Oh
my gosh, I can’t take another day of walking!” I then decided to turn on the
weather quick…90 and humid….joy! Then Lance, Diane, and I decided to grab some
breakfast at Astronomical Pancakes!
Lance enjoyed his waffle, Diane liked her Royal French
Toast, but I had their bacon omelet…word of advice…they make better omelets in
Iowa. Now it was time to make our way to Yorktown, VA.
There we checked out the Yorktown National Battlefield, and
we are glad the battle happened because according to our tour guide, “if the
battle didn’t happen we wouldn’t be here.” PLUS…since I’m a senior citizen, I
was able to get all three of us in for $10! We saw cannons, redoubts, siege
lines…you name it we saw it. After the battlefield, we hopped on the FREE
trolley and walked down the historic Main Street! Grabbing a quick bite from
the expensive river restaurant, we made our way back to our car and decided to
partake in self-guided driving tour of the battlefield. Lance drove and Diane
and I were the guides. Throughout the tour, we made multiple stops so Diane
could take a few photos of wildlife. Once our self-guided tour was done...
it was time to head towards Historic Jamestowne.
it was time to head towards Historic Jamestowne.
By the time we arrived at Jamestowne it as 3:45 and the
archeologists who are working on uncovering the site leave at 4:00. So we
rushed to where they were working so Lance could watch them for a few
minutes. It was actually pretty cool. We
got to touch and see the remains of buildings inhabited in during the early
1600s. Historic Jamestowne is America’s Birthplace after all. (Even before the
Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock) We were also told by a park employee to check
out Island Drive…so we did. It was fairly scenic. Then Lance had to go see the
water. During our walk to the shore…we were pestered by dang flies and bugs! It
was really annoying, and then Diane asked to borrow a comb because she thought
they were in her hair. Not the best idea Lance had.
Finally, Suppertime! Our search for the perfect restaurant
lasted for about an hour! We stopped at multiple restaurants to look at their
menus; we couldn’t find the perfect place. Prices were high and we even walked
out of one because there wasn’t a thing on the menu that sounded appetizing. By this time everyone was tired of searching
for the perfect restaurant, so we ate at Jungle Jim’s…the fourth restaurant.
Once we got back to the condo, Diane made us some strawberry
shakes with the last of our milk. Packing was next on the list, and preparing
for our departure early Saturday morning. You know, I think my legs are looking
forward to the two days of driving because they will finally be able to get
some rest!
Whelp…time to finish packing and get some sleep!
