Day 9…the home stretch.
We decided to sleep in until 7:00am today because we thought
we should reward ourselves a little…LOL! Our hotel had a hot breakfast bar, so
we took advantage of it! By 8:00am we were back on the toll roads…again.
Our drive though Indiana was fairly laid back. I had the first
driving shift, but I forgot to grab a quick cup of coffee from the hotel. My swerving
was an indication I was in dire need of some caffeine, so we stopped at
Starbucks. I got their Venti dark roast and it did the trick…no more swerving!
HAHA!
Then we hit the Chicago area. For some reason, every time I’m
in Chicago the weather sucks. This was the only part of the trip where we had
to drive a distance through down pouring rain (besides a few small showers in Pennsylvania.)
Being stuck in the car for a good amount of time will turn
anyone a little stir-crazy; anyway it did us! Laughing for no reason, reciting
nursery rhymes, and talking about picking up hitchhikers were some of today’s
events in car.
Next it was time for supper. At 3:00 in the afternoon, we
decided to eat at the Ox Yolk in the Amana Colonies! MMMMM….GERMAN FOOD! Next
it was off to Des Moines! We arrived in Des Moines at 5:12pm to find that none
of my roommates were home and I didn’t have a key to get inside. What a way to
end a trip LOL! Good thing my roommates are nice and weren’t too far away. Once
we stepped inside, that was it…the first roadtrip of 2012 was completed.
Overall, it was a spectacular trip and we thank everyone who
helped make this trip possible. We traveled through...
Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky,
West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois. We saw
historical places which helped shaped the USA. We went through plains,
mountains, forests, marshlands, and ocean front terrain. If you think about it…this
trip was an educational excursion!
Now it’s time to review the 600+ photos taken over the 9
days, but first I need to catch up on some sleep before work tomorrow!
Thanks for following, and don’t forget to follow this blog,
as I plan to use it for each of my travels!
